Welcome to Lefkada (or Lefkas) island, one of the largest islands in Greece and the Ionian.

Lefkada is famous for its magnificent sandy beaches. Alongside its natural riches, the culture and monuments of its rural areas combine to create the island's unique character. These are the features that we wish to present in this book, in order to help the visitor discover the treasures of Lefkada, in both its mountain and rural areas.

To discover the traditions and ways of life of the older folk, stroll along the island's pathways and marvel at the landscape which lies permanently before him. The subjects that are included in this book constitute a first attempt to document and highlight the nature and culture of Lefkada and the surrounding islands of Meganisi, Kalamos and Kastos. There is of course a great deal more that can be done to make the most of their full potential.

For island hopping Lefkada lies in the middle of the Ionian and the closest island are Paxi, Corfu to the North and Ithaki, Kefalonia and Zakynthos to the South.
